Monumentale Cemetery
Experience Redesign
A visually-driven portfolio and personal brand hub designed for Polina Meixner, a leading Croatian fashion influencer and stylist. The site was created to showcase her collaborations with renowned brands such as Zalando, Mac Cosmetics, and Philips, and to provide a central platform for her editorial work, campaign features, and partnership inquiries.
Monumentale Cemetery is one of Milan’s most iconic historical sites, yet its visitor journey—both physical and digital—falls short in engaging and guiding guests effectively.
This project aimed to uncover and address key usability gaps through a design-led approach that respects the site's heritage while introducing modern interaction design principles.

In redesigning the Monumentale Cemetery experience,
we transformed a fragmented and outdated visitor journey into
one of clarity, emotional resonance, and intuitive exploration.
Our initial research revealed several core challenges: unclear exterior signage left visitors disoriented from the start, dense and outdated maps made wayfinding difficult, and both the physical site and website lacked the narrative depth needed to convey the cemetery’s cultural and historical significance.
To address these issues, we introduced a multi-layered navigation system enhanced with Augmented Reality (AR). Visitors can access real-time directional guidance through their mobile devices, eliminating the reliance on static, overwhelming maps. Key landmarks are enriched with contextual overlays—short stories, archival imagery, and biographical details—that bring the space to life. On the digital side, we restructured the website with clear hierarchy, improved usability, and interactive features to invite deeper engagement.

Our design focused on three core principles: visualising discovery through narrative-driven interactions, preserving the site's spiritual and historical integrity through culturally sensitive and accessible design, and creating a unified visual system across signage, maps, and digital platforms. This project reminded me that impactful design isn't always loud - it can quietly guide, reveal, and help users connect more deeply with place, memory, and meaning.
